Sir, – The forgotten war in Yemen has gone on for long enough.
Over the past seven years, almost 250,000 people have died in the conflict. An estimated 21 million Yemenis (70 per cent of the population) are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance. Many of these are women and children.
The country is the poorest Arab nation and symbolises the intense geopolitical rivalry between Tehran and Riyadh.
Ireland must play its part on the UN Security Council to end the war and ensure what the UN secretary general termed a “special kind of hell” is brought to an end. – Yours, etc,
