Madam, I wonder if your readers might be able to tell me if I would be within my rights to reduce my working hours by the same percentage that the Government might reduce my salary in the forthcoming budget? Like many others, I signed a contract with the public service less than six months ago. It would seem that one party to that contract, ie the Government, is about to change the terms of that contract, ie my salary. If, for example, the Government reduces my salary by 20 per cent, would it be legitimate for me to reduce the hours of my working week by the same percentage?
