Compensation culture

Sir, – I wonder if the “gig economy” and zero-hour contracts that are the accepted norm in a lot of industries have a connection to our compensation culture. Could a lack of hope of establishing a stable career or ever owning one’s own home account for a proportion of the population’s lack of loyalty to and cynicism towards businesses? In treating ordinary business owners like a cash cow, perhaps litigants are chasing economic independence in another way. – Yours, etc,

KEVIN DOWLING,

Kildare.
