Sir, – The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland reports that due to its efforts women now account for 60 per cent to 85 per cent of the producers, writers and editors employed on projects it funds ("BAI allots €6.4 million to production companies", Business, March 24th).

Is the head-long drive for “diversity” instead of quality programming the reason why these days there is hardly anything worth watching on TV?

Even the advertisements now appear to be subject to diversity quotas and tick-boxing.

It's all good news for the BAI, though. It will soon evolve into a mighty quango, employing 180 staff instead of just 40 in 2017 ("BAI seeks balance in transition to Media Commission", Business, March 24th). – Yours, etc,
