Sir, – There was more than a little of “meanwhile, back in this real world” about the lead story in yesterday’s Irish Times (“Stark risks to economy detailed at Cabinet”, News, November 21st). This must have come as a dampener to those of your readers who have been attending to the various party manifestos, including those of the current governing parties.
These suggest that the biggest problem confronting the next government will be finding enough projects on which to spend the tens of billions of euro which their careful economic stewardship will magic up. – Yours, etc,
PAT O’BRIEN,

Ann Ingle: Deliberately going out of my way to move for no particular reason has never appealed to me
Gerry Thornley: How about an alternative look at Ireland’s Six Nations win over England?
Is Ireland anti-Semitic, an outlier of tolerance or in the middle ground?
How risky is it to buy a second-hand EV?
Sir, – If the electorate could orchestrate a grand coalition, we would pay less tax, build cheaper houses, have no childcare costs, have free healthcare and would only pay for it in the distant future when all the politicians were retired. – Yours, etc,
AIDAN RODDY,
Dublin 18.
