Sir, – There was more than a little of “meanwhile, back in this real world” about the lead story in yesterday’s Irish Times (“Stark risks to economy detailed at Cabinet”, News, November 21st). This must have come as a dampener to those of your readers who have been attending to the various party manifestos, including those of the current governing parties.
These suggest that the biggest problem confronting the next government will be finding enough projects on which to spend the tens of billions of euro which their careful economic stewardship will magic up. – Yours, etc,
PAT O’BRIEN,

Competitive parenting in China: ‘School starts at 7.30am and I pick him up at 9.30pm. He studies again when we arrive home’
Micheál Martin is still the adult in the room, but now with added barbs and an air of impatience
Maureen Dowd: Who will stand up to Trump at High Noon?
