Sir, – As the Dublin City Marathon 2024 descends on us again, why oh why has Iarnród Éireann once again suspended the Dart service for the weekend?
Surely someone can intervene on this disastrous decision that’s made year on year. It is laughable that we encourage people from all over the world to come and participate in this event, and provide limited means to get them to the city centre.
For anyone without the means of a handy lift, it’s a marathon just to get to the start line. – Yours, etc,

Gerry Thornley: How about an alternative look at Ireland’s Six Nations win over England?
Is Ireland anti-Semitic, an outlier of tolerance or in the middle ground?
How risky is it to buy a second-hand EV?

Sir, – Your correspondent Ultan Ó Broin (Letters, October 25th) asks why the Dublin City Marathon website lacks information on public transport.
At least part of the problem may be the fact that Irish Rail will not be operating any Dart services north of Dublin Connolly for the duration of the whole bank holiday weekend. – Yours, etc,
RICHARD BANNISTER,
Kildare.
