Voting at the weekend

Polling time

The Irish Times - Letters to the Editor.

Sir, – Is it not time that elections and referendums were held on Sundays, as is the norm in most other European countries? This would give an opportunity to students to return to their constituencies, where many remain on the electoral register. It would also encourage those recently emigrated to return to vote, as they did in the referendum on same-sex marriage. It would facilitate those whose work takes them out of the country on election day. There would be no need to close primary schools and disrupt childcare needs. – Yours, etc,

NIALL L PELLY,

Dublin 18.
