Sir, – The Oireachtas Finance Committee called in senior OPW officials this week regarding the outrageous monies spent on projects within Government Buildings and Leinster House.
It was wrong to do that as civil servants are only acting on directions from their Ministers.
Why wasn’t Minister of State for the OPW Patrick O’Donovan called in? – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Some years ago two bespoke architectural pavilions were constructed inside the railings on Kildare Street outside the Dáil.
One is used for security. The other was briefly run as a souvenir shop but has been full of junk for quite some time.
It could easily have been repurposed as a most excellent bicycle shed.
