The taxman could end up benefiting from the new savings scheme

Commentary on the proposed personal investment accounts is really boring

Sir, – The idea of a squeaky new lucrative national saving scheme is in itself a compelling prospect.

Better spend it in life though otherwise, considering our out-of-date inheritance tax laws, it’s money in the bank for the taxman when that time comes.

Surely a progressive and bullish initiative?

Sir, – I am really bored by the current commentary about Ireland’s proposed personal investment accounts.

It seems that every few days we are treated to yet another boring article telling us that Irish households have enormous amounts of money sitting in deposits, we need to encourage people to invest and Sweden and the UK have successful models, which may form the basis of the proposed Irish model.

Boring, boring, boring.

– Yours, etc,
