Sir, – I am so concerned about the young people of Ireland. After these Olympics, how will they ever survive without the traditional national inferiority complex? Comhghairdeachas to all. And still plenty more to come. – Yours, etc,
JACKIE NUGENT,
Dublin 7.
Sir, – What a set of performances from Team Ireland in Paris thus far. I was particularly inspired by Rhys McClenaghan’s back story where he revealed that he and his coach set a 10-year programme 10 years ago to win an Olympic gold. I have decided to follow his example. I just need to decide what event would best suit a 76 year old. – Yours, etc,
‘The phone would ring and it would be Mike Scott from the Waterboys or Bono from U2. Everyone wanted to talk to my father’
Inside Dublin’s United Arts Club: ‘I probably walked by this building hundreds of times without knowing what it was’
Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin: ‘I mourned friendships for too long that were actually past their time’
My daughter’s new phone number will stay with her for life. It’s like we’ve given her an invisible, digital tattoo
HUGH MC DONNELL,

Sir, – Between the swimming, the rowing, the gymnastics, the boxing, the running, and all the other sports I’m heavily involved in, I’m delighted to have recorded a series of personal bests in these Olympics so far – in shouting at the telly, jumping up and down on the sofa, punching the air, sprinting in and out of rooms with cups of tea balanced on a tray, flicking between channels, grabbing a bite to eat before medal ceremonies, WhatsApping smiley and hand clapping emojis, and singing Amhrán na bhFiann. With more to come, you need to be in superb condition for these Olympics. – Yours, etc,
CHRIS FITZPATRICK,
Dublin 6.
Sir, – Like many across Ireland I now know some of the intricacies of the skills required for the pommel horse. My bank balance after the Galway Races suggest I should possibly stick to horses of the stationary kind. – Yours, etc,
DAVID CURRAN,
Galway.
