Letters to the Editor. Illustration: Paul Scott

Sir, – Sean McGibbon (Letters, June 26th) might be interested in the works of 19th-century German mathematician Georg Cantor, who did a lot of work in the field of transfinite numbers. There are fairly comprehensible popular science books available too, although for some reason they never seem to feature on bestseller lists! – Yours, etc,

GEORGE SALTER,

Mallow,

Co Cork.
