A chara, – I am sorry to see that Finn McRedmond has fallen under the spell of Liz Truss (“Treatment of Liz Truss reflects bias against women”, Opinion & Analysis, April 18th). Here in the UK, my British friends, male and female, are all of the opinion that the treatment of Liz Truss has nothing to do with her being female, and everything to do with her being dangerously incompetent, not least in the damage she did to the economy overnight, which has still not been repaired. – Is mise,

Sir, – Further to Finn McRedmond’s reflections on the brief tenure of Liz Truss, it was clear that Ms Truss was subjected to some unjust criticism. However, her hubristic memoir is testament to John F Kennedy’s aphorism that “Success has many fathers but failure is an orphan”. – Yours, etc,
