Sir, – Perhaps it’s time we acknowledged reality and recognised the dandelion as our national flower.
Mother Nature would heartily approve, as she gleefully scatters them in wild profusion on every available surface throughout our green and pleasant land, their cheeky cheerfulness quite in tune with our national psyche.
The current title-holder, the shamrock, is not even a flower.
In these days when Mother Nature is under attack from all sides, isn’t it time to give her a break, however symbolic, and be a world leader by honouring her clear favourite as our national flower. – Yours, etc,
