Sir, – I note that Leinster Rugby is attempting to make the Jim McCann song Grace a rugby anthem similar to the way The Fields of Athenry is for Munster.
Judging by the general silence that greeted it in both the RDS and Lansdowne Road in recent weeks, the Leinster fans are not taking to it.
The song is a great song, being a heartbreaking tale of a 1916 leader about to be executed; however, it really does not match the build-up to a rugby game.
Given we now have two songs about the bleaker aspects of our past, the Famine and English oppression (The Fields of Athenry) and the troubles (Zombie), can we change the record? – Yours, etc,
