Sir, – I would like to empathise with the owners of Tubbrid Castle (“A castle for Christmas: Roaring log fires, candlelight and banquet tables laden with food”, Alison Healy, December 16th) for whom “It’s a little bit difficult to get the tree up the 25 stone steps into the Great Hall but we always manage to do it.”
While my struggle is on a smaller scale – getting the €25 tree from Lidl to the overpriced rental accommodation I live in without all the needles falling off – I also always manage to do it.
How about a piece that highlights the Christmas experience of all of the plebeians who do not live in castles? – Yours, etc,
