Sir, – I am a disabled driver and when I recently attempted to park in a disabled parking spot at St Stephen’s Green, there was a delivery van there. When two gardaí came along I explained that the van was parked in contravention of the Road Traffic Act.
The gardaí informed me that it was at their discretion as to whether the van was parked illegally. Surely if a delivery van is parked in a disabled parking spot it must be breaking the law? The delivery driver was not disabled because he returned to his van.
Surely when a road traffic offence is occurring, a garda does not have discretion to interpret the law? The only person being inconvenienced was me. If this is the standard of law enforcement in Dublin regarding disabled parking, I honestly despair. – Yours, etc,
