Leaves – back to nature

Neighbourly spirit

Sir, – Mary Rigney’s letter (November 29th) on “leaves and the glory of autumn” paints a wonderful picture of nature which is currently all around us.

Her solution of dealing with the masses of withered leaves with “wide rakes and strong-bristle brushes” is indeed a wise and eco-friendly solution which I suggest provides the rake or brush holder with a free therapeutic tonic for both body and soul.

Taking the therapy one step further, I would suggest that bagging the resulting leaf pile and passing them on to a nearby neighbourly gardener for the production of leaf mould is likely to result in a few large bunches of flowers or vegetables being deposited on your doorstep next spring or summer – Yours, etc,
