More than 50 injured after train crashes at Barcelona station

One person in serious condition after train runs into buffers on Friday morning

A total of 54 people have been injured after a morning commuter train crashed into the buffers in a station in north-eastern Barcelona, Catalan officials said.

Regional health chief Antoni Comi said 51 people were taken to hospital after the incident in Francia station, one of whom was in a serious condition.

He said there were no immediate details on the cause of the incident, which happened at 7.15am local time (6.15am Irish time).

In the immediate aftermath of the accident, emergency services gave several different figures for the number of passengers injured.
