One woman died yesterday and eight people were injured in a four-vehicle collision on the main Belfast-Dublin road, north of Newry, writes Christine Newman.
The collision, which happened shortly after 9 a.m., was on the dual carriageway two miles north of Newry at Tinker's Hill.
One of the injured was reported to be in serious condition and was taken to a Belfast hospital.
Others were treated in Newry's Daisy Hill Hospital.
The dual carriageway was closed for most of the day while investigations into the crash continued and traffic was diverted away from the area.
Meanwhile, two men who were seriously injured in a collision on Tuesday in Co Louth in which three people died were reported to be in stable condition at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, yesterday.
The crash happened on the Dunleer motorway, eight miles north of Drogheda. Three people, all of whom were from Drogheda, died in the collision. They were Mr Gerard McLoughlin (22) from Ann Street, Ms Celine McArdle (21) from Boyle-O'Reilly Terrace and Ms Elaine McGeough (22) from Barrack Street.
