Laois 2-22 Wicklow 0-10

The Laois hurlers got their Leinster championship campaign off to a flyer today with a 18 point victory over Wicklow in Portlaoise.

The visitors made a match of it for the opening quarter of an hour but their challenge fell away once Michael McEvoy found the net midway through the half.

Playing confidently, Laois finished the contest off minutes before half-time when Liam Tynan powered his way through the Wicklow defence to goal.

Laois led 2-11 to 0-6 at half-time.

The home side kept the scoreboard operators on their toes on the resumption and outpointed their rivals 11-4 to set up a clash with Carlow next weekend.
