A GALWAY coroner says a public awareness campaign is required to highlight the risks of running electricity generators indoors.
West Galway coroner Dr Ciarán McLoughlin was commenting at an inquest yesterday, which found a painter had died after inhaling fumes while using a generator in an unventilated house.
The painter, Paul Gardiner (43), of Kylebrack, Loughrea, was last seen alive by colleagues at about 4.30pm on November 26th at a house they were refurbishing at Bohermore, Galway. They had helped him carry a generator into the house from the back garden.
Pathologist Dr Mary Casey said a toxicology report had led her to conclude that death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Health and Safety Authority official Maria King said that generators should always be used outdoors.
