Two people being questioned by gardai over the murder of a man in an attempted carjacking were tonight released from custody.

Aidan Myers was beaten to death near Dundalk in December 2006 after a drunken gang rammed his car and tried to steal it.

A 60-year-old woman and 25-year-old man were arrested this morning in connection with the Garda investigation into the crime.

They were detained at Dundalk Garda Station under section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act but were released tonight without charge.

Mr Myers’ killing was initially linked to a drunken gang which caused a local cross-Border crime rampage on the night he was attacked.

The 37-year-old from Cox’s Demesne, Dundalk, was killed after carjackers used a van to ram the car he and a friend were travelling in.

A gang had been on a wrecking spree across South Armagh and Co Louth in the hours before the attack on Mr Myers. A number of cars were hijacked in the region.

Mr Myers was beaten on the road when he got out of the car.
