Two men in their 20s were arrested in Dublin’s north inner city this morning by detectives from the Garda’s Organised Crime Unit and the heavily armed emergency response unit.
The two were taken to Garda stations in the north of the city for questioning after being arrested on Annamoe Drive. A handgun was found a car on the nearby North Circular Road.
It is understood the two may have intended using the weapon to commit a crime.
The men are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in Store Street and the Bridewell Garda stations. They can be held for a total of 72 hours.
