Two Palestinian militants from the radical Islamic group Hamas allegedly preparing a suicide attackwere shot dead by Israeli troops in the northern West Bank tonight, Israeli military sources said.

They were both killed in a firefight with troops who ambushedthem in a house near the town of Tulkarem, they said, adding that athird Palestinian was wounded in the shooting.

The Israeli sources claimed the militants were preparing tocarry out a suicide bombing inside Israel. A Kalashnikov assaultrifle and a pistol were found beside their bodies, they said.

Palestinian witnesses confirmed to AFP that two Palestinianswere killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli troops in the A-Tiraarea, just north of Tulkarem.

They said that the bodies of the two men, whom they said werenot from the area, were taken away by the soldiers.
