Two detained after Cork cigarette theft

Two men have been detained by the Garda in Cork after a van was hijacked and its driver tied up in a robbery this afternoon.

Two men have been detained by the Garda in Cork after a van was hijacked and its driver tied up in a robbery this afternoon.

At around 3.30 p.m. two men attacked the van driver delivering cigarettes to a public house in Roscarberry, Co Cork.

The garda say they then forced the man to drive two miles before stopping the van, tying the driver up and making off an undisclosed amount of cigarettes and cash.

The men then made off in a red sports car with yellow number plates.

After a follow up operation two men were detained by gardai in Bandon.
