The scene at the foot of Benevenagh Mountain near Magilligan, Co Derry, yesterday where a train was derailed after ploughing into a herd of cattle.

Nine animals were killed in the collision and three people were taken to hospital after the 6.50 a.m. Belfast-Derry train went off the tracks. The driver spotted the cattle which had strayed on to the line and managed to slow the train down before the impact. Northern Ireland Railways said a full investigation was under way.
