Sales at Tesco’s over one hundred Irish supermarkets grew by 9.8 per cent to €2.995 billion over the 12 months to February 23rd, the company said today. No profit data was released.
In a statement on its Irish operations, Tesco said its sales growth was due to non-food sales and "buoyancy in core food and grocery sales".
A spokesman for Tesco said no profit data has ever been released by the company on its Irish operations. "They are consolidated in our Irish figures", he said.
The company said its own label products now accounted for over 33.7 per cent of all sales and said
it plans to open 16 new stores this year, brining the total to 117.
Tesco employs over 13,000 people and said its expansion plans will create an additional 1,225 jobs this financial year.
A mobile service launched by the company in October has 17,000 sales and Tesco has issued 30,000 credit cards and 10,000 motor insurance under its personal finance offering. The number of personal loans issued grew 78 per cent in the year to 5,300.
