A FINE Gael TD declared yesterday he had "nothing to hide" when it emerged that he failed to register a Galway city apartment in the recently published declaration of interests of Oireachtas members.

In the second such controversy in a month in the Galway West constituency, Mr Padraig McCormack said his tax position was fully declared and up to date on the property at Forster Place.

He said he registered the house with Galway Corporation on April 18th last, although he had "nil" declared in the Dail Register of Interests published on Wednesday.

"I noticed that some members declared rented accommodation and on foot of that I have sought clarification from the secretary of the Members' Registry of Interests committee", he said. "Of course, I will register the property if it is required."

A similar controversy arose last month when it emerged that a Fianna Fail candidate, Senator Frank Fahey, had failed to register three rental properties with the local authority.
