The director of the nanoscience institute at Trinity College Dublin was yesterday presented with an international award for his contributions to the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Professor John Boland was named Laureate of the 2011 ACSIN Nanoscience Prize for his work in the development and application of scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy. He said he was honoured to receive the prize and particularly proud to represent Ireland and to draw attention to its achievements in nanoscience and in science and technology. The prize is awarded every two years.
