Dar Es Salaam - About one million residents of the Tanzanian capital suffered a fifth day without mains water yesterday after flooding damaged a delivery pipe outside the city.

The government has urged residents to use water from 51 public wells around the city as an emergency measure. Sanitation in hotels, hospitals, universities and other public buildings and offices is badly affected.
