Ireland:More than 500 cases were confirmed by GPs last week, although this is believed to be an underestimate of the true number.

Australia:A 22-year-old man from western Autralia became the country's 54th confirmed death from H1N1. Vaccine trials have begun.

France:A teenage girl who had contracted swine flu but also suffered from another serious illness became the country's first official death.

United States:The worst-hit country, with 263 confirmed deaths – mostly people with other underlying health problems.

China:With an aggressive policy, it has quarantined thousands of people, using dedicated hotels.
