A SURVEY of attitudes throughout Northern Ireland towards parades and marches has been commissioned by the independent review group appointed by the British government to report on the issue, writes Dick Grogan, Northern Editor.

The Independent Review of Parades and Marches, which is required to make its recommendations by the end of January 1997, said yesterday its intention is to cover the views of people whose opinions might not otherwise be heard.

The main survey will be carried out this month. There will be smaller surveys in selected locations, which are likely to include areas where parades are particularly controversial.

The review team chairman, Dr Peter North, said there is still time for people to make written submissions, preferably no later than October 15th. The information from the survey would be additional to this direct evidence and the review team's own meetings with community representatives.
