Superdrug has been forced to make an embarrassing U-turn over its decision to sell the morning after pill online from its website.
The high street chemist said it had withdrawn the controversial service hours after it was launched following a request from the British Department of Health and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
At the launch of the service yesterday, Superdrug said women would be able to have emergency contraception delivered to their door within hours of placing their order with the Superdrug.com website.
But shortly afterwards, the company decided to temporarily suspend the scheme and await the outcome of discussions to review the protocol surrounding the supply of the product.
The move follows the British government's controversial decision to allow the pill to be available over the counter from pharmacies without a doctor's prescription.
