A one-year-old pup has been rescued by the Irish Coast Guard after becoming stranded on the side of a cliff in north Dublin today.

The Irish Coast Guard operations centre received a call around noon, when the owners of springer spaniel Trixie were unable to reach her on the side of a cliff at Deer Park on Howth Head.

The pup had run away from her owner before falling 10 feet to a narrow ledge overhanging a 30 foot drop.

The Coast Guard cliff rescue team lowered rescue climber Robin Blandford over the cliff edge, who coaxed the dog into a "doggy bag".

The pair were then lowered to the ground where she was reunited with her owner.
