A small plane has crashed into the Federal Reserve Bank Building in Miami.

Authorities say the pilot was killed but no one inside the building was injured. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the crash appears to be an accident.

Over 100 people were in the one-story building when the aircraft slammed into the side and exploded. Some windows were broken but there appears to be no structural damage.

An FAA spokeswoman said it was believed the plane was coming from Marathon in the Florida Keys and travelling to New Smyrna Beach on Florida's central east coast.

The aircraft was described as a single-engine aircraft, probably a home-built experimental aircraft.
