British police have said that four men and two women have been charged with membership of a terrorist group.

The six were arrested at addresses in London and Cheshire on Wednesday and charged under the Terrorism Act yesterday, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

The charges relate to being a member of a proscribed organisation and "facilitating the retention or control of terrorist property".

One Briton was among those arrested and the others were Turkish nationals, police sources said.
