Gardaí in Cork are investigating an assault in Cork which left a man with severe injuries overnight.
The man, who is in his 30s, was found slumped on a footpath on Patrick Street at 3 a.m.
He was rushed to Cork University Hospital where he is now on a life support machine a garda spokesman said.
"It is thought the injuries may have been the result of an assault," he said.
The scene was sealed off for technical examination. No arrests were made.
