The Hague - A Senior Bosnian Serb officer, Gen Radislav Krstic, pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges of genocide and crimes against humanity for his alleged role in the 1995 massacre of Muslims in the UN-protected enclave of Srebrenica.

Gen Krstic (50) is the highest-ranking military officer in the Bosnian Serb army to appear before the UN war crimes court. He was arrested by NATO-led troops near Bijeljina last Wednesday in an operation heavily criticised by Russia.
