AIR AND sub aqua teams have been called in to aid the search for a man who went missing during floods two weeks ago.

Ger Murphy (44) has not been seen since he left the Palace Bar in Birr, Co Offaly, in the early hours of Sunday, August 10th and his family is growing increasingly concerned for his safety.

He had been socialising in the bar and it is thought that he then began walking towards his apartment at Camcor Park, a journey that would have taken him past the river Camcor which was swollen with water from the Sliabh Bloom mountains following heavy rain.

Water levels have finally subsided to a degree suitable for sub aqua teams to enter the river.

A Garda spokesman said that up to 20 divers, including volunteers from local clubs would take part in a Garda co-ordinated underwater search beginning this morning. Last weekend up to 100 locals, members of the Civil Defence and gardaí searched a 10km stretch along the Camcor.

Mr Murphy is described by family as a tall man with fair hair, going grey. He wears glasses and walks with a slight limp because he has a back problem.

Gardaí said there had been no transactions on his debit or credit cards and no actions on his mobile phone since the day he was last seen. His family contacted gardaíwhen they were unable to reach him over a number of days and after he failed to turn up for work in Birr.
