Search fails to find fisherman

A fisherman from Scotland was believed drowned off the Donegal coast yesterday

A fisherman from Scotland was believed drowned off the Donegal coast yesterday. The victim, a native of the Isle of Islay, was not named, but said to be in his mid 20s. He fell overboard from the Burtonport registered fishing boat Naomh Aine.

Rescue services were alerted and a thorough search of the area by the Arranmore lifeboat, an Army search rescue helicopter and seven fishing boats was called off yesterday evening, without any trace of the man, who went missing from the boat about 40 miles out.

A lifeboat spokesman described the seas as "very rough with a temperature of 10 C".
