The Irish Meteorological Society annual lecture series gets under way next Thursday with a talk by Met Éireann’s Evelyn Cusack on what the future holds for Irish weather.
The next two lectures have also been announced with Tom Arnold of Concern talking about climate change and the developing world on October 29th and Dr Frank Mulligan of NUI Maynooth discussing what can we learn about climate change from studies of the Earth’s upper atmosphere on November 26th. The lectures are free and open to the public and begin at 7.30pm in the Botany Theatre, Trinity College Dublin. More details are available on the Society’s web site: irishmetsociety.org
Talking Salmon
Why are fewer salmon surviving their journey from sea to rivers? And what can they tell us about the environment? Find out more with Dr Ken Whelan from the Marine Institute who will talk about ‘Salmon – The Climate Change Forecasters’ at the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin next Thursday, October 8th.
Dr Whelan will discuss the multidisciplinary Salmon at Sea (SALSEA) Programme, which is closely following this “aquatic canary” across the North Atlantic (www.salmonatsea.com).
