San Diego - Rude e-mails sent on impulse and instantly regretted could soon be a thing of the past thanks to a new software package that spots if a message is likely to cause offence.

A Californian company has developed a system that seeks out insulting words and phrases in an e-mail and warns the user before they are transmitted.
