Cape Town - A dozen South African cabinet ministers were brought to hospital for anthrax checks yesterday and police and fire fighters cordoned off President Thabo Mbeki's office in Cape Town after two suspicious parcels were opened.

A police spokesman said police, firefighters and bomb disposal experts were called after the suspicious mail items were identified in the lobby of Tuynhuys, beside parliament in Cape Town. Cabinet ministers representing economic portfolios were meeting at the time.
