An RUC reservist told a Belfast court yesterday that he had been "anxious" when he heard shots fired after a colleague had pursued a man into the woods - out of sight.

The witness said this man had emerged from a car they had stopped and had run and he had been left to "cover" the other two men in the vehicle. When he heard the shot she was afraid the other constable had been shot, he told Lord Justice Nicholson.

The constable was giving evidence against two Jonesboro men accused of the murder of a postal worker, Mr Frank Ker - who died during a £131,000 armed robbery at Newry P0 sorting depot on November 10th, 1994.

The defendants, Mr Declan McComish (28), of Regina Park, and Mr Kevin Patrick Donegan (39), of Bayview, were arrested near the village of Meigh less than an hour after the robbery.
