Geneva - A human rights envoy of Mrs Robinson, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, travels to the United States this weekend to investigate capital punishment and possible deaths due to use of excessive force by law enforcement officials, a spokesman said yesterday.

Mr Bacre Waly Ndiaye, a Senegalese lawyer who serves as the UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, is to meet federal and state authorities in Washington DC, New York, Florida, Texas and California.
