Defending champion Loren Roberts fired a four-under-par 66 to join Cameron Beckman and Bob Tway in a tie for the early lead in the Texas Open second round today.
Roberts mixed six birdies with two bogeys to finish at 10-under while Beckman carded a 67 and 1986 U.S. PGA champion Tway, joint first-round leader with Heath Slocum, shot a 69 at LaCantera Golf Club's Resort course.
The trio were a stroke ahead of South Africa's Rory Sabbatini (68), Slocum (70) and Japan's Akio Sadakata (64).
World number seven David Toms (66), Mike Heinen and Garrett Willis (both 65s) shared early seventh place on 132.
Spain's Sergio Garcia was level par for his round, and two under for the tournament, with 12 holes to play.
The halfway cut was projected to fall at three under.
