The Minister of State to the Government, Mr Pat Rabbitte, has called for a referendum to vindicate the rights of the disabled in society.

"I was extremely disappointed that part of the Employment Equality Bill which would have obliged employers to make provision for workers with disabilities was found to be constitutionally unsound," he said.

He believed that a referendum would receive the overwhelming support of the electorate.
