Kenny Perry may not figure among the favourites for the British Open but not even holder Ernie Els and Tiger Woods can match his current form.

The 42-year-old from Kentucky has won three of his last four tournaments, including last week's Greater Milwaukee Open, earning $2.71 million in the process, has told reporters that he feel like he is on "another planet" since his arrival at Royal St George's.

Perry, who now has seven U.S. PGA titles since turning professional 21 years ago, has only entered the British Open once in that time, failing to make the cut at Birkdale in 1991.

"It's not my style of golf," he told reporters on Wednesday. "I'm not much in the wind and I don't hit it very low - I hit it real high.

"But the technology has changed, the golf ball flies straighter now and that's helped me a bunch.

But Perry, who built and owns his own course in his hometown of Franklin, Kentucky, is still taking a while to acclimatise to the links of Royal St George's with its baked, undulating fairways which contrast with the lush, manicured courses on the PGA tour.

"I thought I was on the moon, I felt like I was on another planet which I guess I am," he said.

"What's impressed me, though, is that so many people knew I'd won in Milwaukee. That just showed how much golf knowledge there is over here and how much people love the game here.
