An inquest into the death of Princess Diana is likely to be held by the Queen's coroner, who said in a statement early today: "The death of Diana, Princess of Wales was notified to the coroner of the Queen's household who has given an order to allow the funeral to take place."

It is thought the inquest will be held in the annexe of St James's Palace and is unlikely to be held until after the French police investigation is completed. - (PA).
