Washington - The former vice-president, Mr Dan Quayle, has formally entered the US presidential race for 2000, promising to make American values the keynote of his campaign, Joe Carroll reports. He is also promising a 30 per cent tax cut.
Mr Quayle (52) launched his campaign in his native Indiana. About 2,500 supporters heard him emphasise his political experience, which includes 12 years in Congress and four years as vice-president to president George Bush. Now Mr Quayle will be running against Mr George W. Bush, son of the former president, who will formally launch his campaign in June. Mr Quayle trails far behind Mr Bush in the polls for the Republican nomination.
